    About Phil A.

I've been playing guitar for nearly twenty years and teaching guitar and music theory for nearly ten years. I have experience playing in a variety of styles such as rock, country, jazz, bluegrass, funk and blues. I studied music at the University of Illinois in Champaign, IL and took private lessons with some of the best guitarists in the area such as Brian Wilkie, who was a prominent Nashville session player during the '80s and early '90s. My course will place a focus on technique and ear-training will some emphasis on music theory and reading music. I believe proper technique and ear-training is paramount toward individual success on the instrument. I believe every student learns differently as well and think it's important to take the time to figure out what exactly the student hopes to achieve with the instrument. I also play mandolin and lap steel guitar as well.
