    About Peter K.

Hey there! I'm originally from Salzburg, Austria. I have been playing drums for over 20 years (teaching for about 8 years) and am currently playing professionally around the NYC area. I graduated from the A.Bruckner University in Austria in 2006 with a degree in jazz performance & didactic studies w/ great drummer and composer Doug Hammond and later Jeff Boudreaux. Other drummers I've been studying over the years include Greg Hutchinson, Jonathan Blake, Jim Black and many more... After one year of master studies I decided to move to New York City in 2010. Having been established in Europe (I toured in over 20 countries) I sought new challenges; plus the big apple had always had a very high attraction to me. In NYC I founded my own group "Wayfarers" that I recorded and album and did two international tours with. I am currently working with artist of many styles including Jazz, Hip Hop, R'n'B, Rock and Singer/songwriter projects and tour the US and Europe a few times a year. I enjoy teaching very much and I think it is important to pass on some of the knowledge that I was lucky enough to have been given. *** Lesson Details *** It all depends on the student. My maxim is to help the student to get better at what he or she wants to get better, i.e. what style of music the student likes and wants to play. Of course I focus on the basic techniques and the ground-work every drummer needs to be able to have some "freedom" around the instrument. But aside of that, every student will be approached individually - that includes the pace, of what I ask for every week and how strict or laid back I will be about it. I use some drum-schools but mostly try to always work with music/recordings or at least in a musical context, so that there is always the connection to what is the most important thing I want to prepare you for - the bandstand. the rehearsal w/ your friends. The recording studio. A jazz session. And of course - tho hard work is necessary - it should always make fun to make and learn music! *** Studio Equipment *** Living room situation with drumset, additional snare drums for playing together with the student. Play-along and recording devices. *** Travel Equipment *** I'll bring sticks and if necessary drum-pad, beginner students should at least have a drum-pad or snare drum; ideally of course an acoustic or electronic drumset should be available at the students place. *** Specialties *** Jazz, Hip Hop, R&B, Rock, Folk, Classical, Marching Drums/Percussion
