With a Master's in Special Education from SCSU in New Haven and a second Master's in Psychology from University of New Haven, I combine Teaching with Counseling to pay close attention to underlying skills deficits so we can go back to the confusing areas that students need "catching up" in before learning anything more, thus avoiding anxiety, such as Math Anxiety. I build strength and confidence so that Math is easy and do-able. I also have a PhD. in Counseling Psychology and I use psychology as a Licensed Massage Therapist and Bodyworker in my home clinic to increase relaxation, but I do not use any Massage Therapy or Psychology in tutoring and teaching. My clinical laboratory medicine experience as MT(HHS) and H (ASCP) bring my Biology, Chemistry, Anatomy & Physiology academics real because I worked in real hospitals saving lives with this academic knowledge I offer to tutor students at home. I have Research experience at Yale Medical School in Epidemiology & Public Health and in Virology. I have 2 years experience in MD medical school in the French-speaking part of Belgium. I teach French. I teach piano. I work with parents well. (I switched from my MD to a PhD.) *** Lesson Details *** We work quickly on all lessons to get to "when the student got lost" in any subject and then we re-teach that missing part and bring any student back to grade-level. *** Studio Equipment *** Home-Clinic, in West Haven, on Elm Street, I do Massage Therapy & Bodywork for Relaxation and Stress Reduction with Clinical Bodywork Massage Table, Professional Weight Bearing All Ancillary Spa Materials; Essential Oils; Music for Relaxation Energy Balancing; Hypnotherapy; Bodywork; REIKI ENERGY Deep Tissue Techniques; Bowen Pain Reduction; PNF; Myofascial Release; Music Therapy *** Travel Equipment *** When I visit the families I tutor I bring a small attache case or laptop case with "decoder" flashcards for reading (LD kids) and a couple reader books to help with my seeing where students have problems with reading/or comprehension. I bring math tools but generally all that's needed is a pen and paper. I have the Ellis-Gallistel test for zeroing in on underlying skill deficit areas. We don't spend much time on testing, except during the intake visit so I get a grasp where students need to concentrate. We go right into doing real homework and see if we can't teach both the missing underlying skill while bringing the LD student up to grade level, with excellence and without anxiety, especially Math anxiety. We often use computers but it depends on each individual student. *** Specialties *** Tutoring kids at home due to illness or as referred by their school, parent, or teacher. Working with Learning Disabled students at any grade level, Pre-K through Grade 12. Tutoring special pre-med subjects in Biology, Anatomy, Physiology, Chemistry, Math, Pre-Algebra. GED prep. Piano and French.
