Paul has been teaching music in the public school system since 1997. He has a bachelor and master's degree in music education from VanderCook College of Music. While at VanderCook Paul studied all woodwind, brass, percussion, and string instruments, as well as music theory, conducting, and rehearsal techniques. Along with being a music teacher, Paul also composes and records out of his home studio. He has played bass and guitar in various Chicago bands including, Reckless Maggie, The One, Chicago Sound Machine, and Windy City. *** Lesson Details *** Students are strongly encouraged to practice at least 30 minutes daily. Typically, my guitar and drum students will start with the first book in the Alfred Series. We keep track of progress in a journal taking baby steps where help is needed, and bigger, faster steps when things are coming easy. I will do much of the first 3-6 months of lessons book. If and when things are going, I then add things outside the lessons book that the student is interested in, such as specific rock or pop songs that are on the students level. I do believe in following the technique and theory books and completing at least the first in the series. This is the foundation of what your going to build your technique and music theory skills. *** Studio Equipment *** living room converted recording studio: electronic drum kit, couch, coffee table, desk with computer and recording equipment, guitars hooked up through computer, thru monitor speakers, room for parents to sit in on lesson *** Travel Equipment *** The Student should have their own instrument. If there is an opening for some sort of "recording lessons" I have recording software on my lap top for travel and even more equipment in my home. *** Specialties *** I am a band director I specializing in typical band style music. Classical, Baroque...etc. I use rubank often as well as the students current music for up coming performances. However, I am also a pop musician. I use Alfred guitar method for guitar and teach this is a pop/rock fashion. Also drum set in pop/rock/jazz fashion.

Paul is a great teacher in general. He's a good bass guitar player and has some innovative ways to teach on that instrument, but his approach would work for anything.
