Being a drummer, composer and arranger, I see music from many angles. When I teach the drums, I put a special effort in helping my students see the big picture, training them to "hear" what they are doing and how it relates to the music, encouraging them to take full ownership of their drumming and their role in the band. The drumset is a powerful instrument, it controls the largest number of music features in a band (time, density, rhythm, dynamics and color, just to name a few) and the drummer is in charge of them. I can help my students achieve control over these musical aspects through personalized lessons. Technique is the means to an end, not the end itself. At Berklee College of Music I studied with a large number of drum teachers and have mastered subjects such as rudiments, reading, soloing, odd meters, metric modulations, swinging, studio drumming and so forth. I teach my students how to use their technical skills in a musical way. I am specialized in Jazz and improvisational music but have extended experience in most popular western music styles including pop, rock, funk and blues. I have published two internationally critically acclaimed recordings featuring me as drummer, leader, composer and producer. These recordings have also been played in commercial radios in the US and Europe. I believe that music is a thing to be enjoyed, my teaching style is friendly and supportive. While I keep other options available, I highly recommend my students to sign up for 1 hour lessons. A good music lesson is divided in two sections: the first is a check of how the student is doing with the material previously introduced; the second is spent either addressing anything that needs to be revised or introducing new material. A full hour is best suited for this process.

You can't hope to find a better teacher! Paolo is and extremely knowledgeable and capable musician. Plus he's a super cool/professional guy. You can rest easy on the fact that he knows exactly what you need to learn and work on relative to your goals. I came to him as a guitar player completely new to drums. What I've learned would have taken me so much longer without his help. If you really want to learn, there is no way you can go wrong with him.

I have been taking lessons with Paolo since the beginning of the year. I came as a proficient rock player wanting to play jazz, and have been able to make a lot of progress. The things I've worked on with him have also helped my drumming in general and I feel like I'm becoming a much better musician. I'd recommend taking lessons with Paolo for anyone interested in drums.

Paolo is great! His patience and ability to carefully listen and observe what a student needs is what makes him a great musician and instructor. He helps me understand the role the drumset plays and what to focus on when practicing on my own and when playing in a group. He guides me through my hesitations while encouraging my own style. I'm glad I found such a great instructor!
