Specialties

I have experience teaching both children and adults methods in classical piano. We work on sightreading music, theory and ear training. Once the basics of music are understood I am very open to learning music that is popular or of particular interest to each student.

Lesson Details

My goal is to make my students feel comfortable. Only once we have established a good and comfortable relationship can each student truly grow as a musician. I am open to what works for each individual with regards to practice schedules, methods of perfecting pieces and how the actual lesson is conducted. I will try everything until I feel like I have discovered the best method for that particular student.

I think my students would say my biggest strength is my flexibility; my willingness ... to work with whatever obstacles they are overcoming. Many students have told me they enjoy our lessons because they are not afraid I will react negatively and they are not afraid to tell me what’s on their minds.

When I meet with the student for the first time it is my goal to gauge their personality, understand what goals the student has and to test their current ability.

With the knowledge gained in that first lesson I can then make important decisions like, what series of educational material will work best for this particular student? And, what style of practice should I encourage? Or, how should our lessons be structured?

Although I learn a lot about the student during that first sit-down, my approach will be ever-changing just as our relationship will be. Meaning, I am always open to switching into new books or trying something new and of course, I am always open to hearing the students thoughts and opinions on what would work best.

As a member of the MTNA (Music Teachers National Association) in Denver I can afford my students many performance opportunities. Performing is always encouraged, but always optional!

My experience could ... have been very different if I had not ended up with a teacher who understood the value of thoroughly learning the building blocks of classical music, but also understood the importance of kindness, patience and fun. My goal as a teacher is to be just the kind of supporting and inspiring mentor to my students that my teacher was to me.
