Lesson Details

I am a very easy going and patient teacher. My objective is for a guitar or bass lesson to be both educational and fun. I do not adhere to a strict curriculum because I have found over the years that everyone learns differently. I cater my lessons to the individual goals and tastes of my students.

Whether it is a 7 year old successfully playing a D chord or teenager connecting the dots of music theory, the most satisfying experiences for me is when a student has that “ah hah” moment. ... I feel it is my job not only to channel creativity but also to help students develop discipline. A typical lesson will consist of learning new skills such as working on rhythm and developing a good ear but most importantly, we will do a large amount of playing.

My teaching studio is furnished with two practice amps, a small PA, and a music stand. I have several guitars both acoustic and electric, plus a bass, keyboards, and several percussion instruments around the house to play with. I really enjoy working with students to develop their own music and am equipped to record demos. I also have an extensive songbook and guitar tab library as a resource to learn songs from. I do have two cats, just to let you know, and my house very easy to get to via public transportation.

I have been teaching music for 16 years. I grew up on the 2nd floor of my father's music store in Central PA and have been around music my whole life. I earned a bachelor’s degree in Music Performance from the University of the Arts where I studied jazz guitar with Pat Martino, Jimmy Bruno, Steve Giordano, and Tom Giacabetti. I was one of the original teachers during the formative years at the Paul Green School of Rock Music where I later went on to be the Music Director of the ... Philadelphia and Downingtown Schools. During that time, I helped many students prepare and get accepted to music schools, ran and developed music summer camps, and organized concerts where the students performed the music of Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, and many more of rock's finest band at every major venue in Philadelphia.

I have been active in the local music scene recording and playing sold-out shows at the Khyber, TLA, Trocadero, Johnny Brenda's and World Café Live with such acts as 722, Bebek, Franzschubert, Sensi Star, Clean Equations, The Black Lodge Ensemble, Dani Mari, Ashley Phillips, and The Smash Brothers. I have played jazz at the Kimmel Center, musical theater at the Walnut Street and Prince Music Theaters, reggae bass at the Jersey Shore, and rocked out at CBGB’s. I have toured throughout the east coast and as far as Shanghai, China. I bring all this range of experience to each lesson.
