    About Michelle C.

    Michelle C. received her Bachelor degrees in Flute Performance and General Music Studies from California State University, San Bernardino and her Master's degree in Flute Performance from the University of Redlands. She is currently pursuing her Artist Diploma at the University of Redlands under the guidance of Sara Andon. Her flute teachers include Jarold Prichard, Rebecca Tomlinson, and Sara Andon. While at CSUSB, Michelle served as the principal flutist and piccolo for the Chamber Winds and Symphonic Band. In 2009, Michelle won the Instrumental Concerto Competition, where she performed Kent Kennan's Night Soliloquy with the CSUSB Symphonic Band. Michelle was chosen to perform in the Student Showcase that same year as a representative of the CSUSB Music Department, in which her performance was recorded and used as part of the department's recruitment CD. Michelle held a music scholarship for four years at CSUSB, and was recognized as Flutist of the Year in 2008, and Musician of the Year in 2009. At the University of Redlands, Michelle has served as principal flute in the University Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, and Wind Quintet. Since 2011, Michelle has performed frequently with the Redlands Symphony as second flute. In 2012, Michelle was inducted into Pi Kappa Lambda, the National Music Honor Society. In the fall of 2012, Michelle was a finalist in the University of Redlands Concerto Competition. In 2013, Michelle won a spot as a performer in the Presidents Honor Recital, a public showcase for outstanding performers in the University of Redlands School of Music. Michelle has performed in Master classes lead by Paul Edmund-Davies, Liisa Ruoho, and Tracy Harris. She has performed in the Silver Sounds Flute Choir, Moreno Valley Wind Symphony, Southland Symphony, Terrace View Community Theater and the Orange County Flute Ensemble. While in the Orange County Flute Ensemble she performed regularly on piccolo, alto flute, and bass flute. Her bass flute playing was a contributing factor in the ensembles acceptance as an exhibition performance group at the National Flute Convention in 2010. Michelle teaches flute at the Community School of Music in Redlands, California and Kasier High School in Fontana regularly. She also has lead sectionals and master classes at schools throughout the Inland Empire. Michelle currently holds the Stage Manager Position with the Redlands Symphony Orchestra. *** Lesson Details *** With a Masters Degree from the University of Redlands I can provide Flute Lessons that are fun for all ages. Students will learn what it takes to play with good tone, rhythmic stability, musicality and have fun while doing it! Each student can expect to be encouraged to be the best they can be in a safe and fun atmosphere. *** Travel Equipment *** I require my students to have a working instrument, and appropriate sheet music/books. I can provide a stand if one is not available at their house. *** Specialties *** I teach mainly classical flute, focusing on developing skills through exercises for tone, articulation, finger dexterity. I also speecialize in 20th century techniques such as multiphonics and alternate fingerings
