About Michael C.
Hailed by the New York Times for his “sweet intensity” and “insinuating smoothness,” Michael, woodwind specialist, is a prolific performer from solo and chamber concerts to pit-orchestras in musical theater and film recording sessions. He began playing saxophone at the age of 10 and picked up several new instruments along the way, recently completing a doctorate in Musical Performance from the University of Southern California. Michael is passionately dedicated to teaching, with over 10 years experience teaching 1 on 1 students, as well as chamber groups and masterclasses. Michael's diverse experience and fluency in many musical styles promises to provide a personalized and enriching experience tailored specifically to the student.

The most important goal for me as a teacher is passing along the love that I have for music, and helping to make it a meaningful part of my students’ lives. It is my passion to help the student thrive in his studies, realize her potential, and be forever transformed by the experience.
As an instructor, I endeavor to relate to the student experience as much as possible by recalling my own studies, so that I may anticipate obstacles to motivation and learning, communicate effectively, and maximize the educational process. Every student-teacher relationship is unique and must be specifically designed and guided according to the student’s needs, abilities, and personal goals. The musical interests a student brings with him or her are a bridge to training on an instrument, and are essential in developing skills in listening, reading musical language, playing by ear, and improvising.
