I specialize in Jazz, Funk, and Rock styles. I stress technique and reading in my lesson plan to ensure fluency in playing.
My lessons start on the drum set right off the bat. We go straight to the fun stuff. I like my students to lose any fear of being behind the drum set and see that it can be a great time even if you don't know how to do anything yet. No matter who you are, I can get you playing your first beat in the first half hour of our first lesson. I promise. It'll only get better from there...
I am a very patient and helpful teacher. I do not stress out my students. I understand that everyone learns at
different paces and some people are able to pick certain things up better than others. We're all different and we all grow in our own way. I understand that and I'm here to help you find your path in music.
I work out of a book called "Encyclopedia of Reading Rhythms". It's a great book for all levels of reading. After 3-6 months of studying with me, you should be able to start playing with musicians in bands, playing along to your favorite music and have fun behind the set! I am a very kind teacher and I go at your pace, so let's get started!
Hi, I'm Mike. I've been playing drums for about 13 years now. I got hooked on the drums just before high school and have been playing ever since. I've been teaching all ages for 9 years now and strive to make sure that my students are able to reach their goals. I have my Bachelors of Music Degree from Musician's Institute, which trained me not only on how to be a better performer but how to pass on my love and knowledge of music to others.
I believe that performance is an integral part of
education and have been performing with bands since I first started playing. While performing I started taking lessons to better my skills because lessons are essential to growth in music. Lessons make playing more fun, since you learn what you are doing quicker and you have direction. Lessons help you learn so much quicker than learning on your own and lessons help you discover in weeks what would take you years doing it on your own. You'll need that head start because with music, the learning never stops, so let's start learning!
