I have been involved in music all of my life. As a child I played trumpet in band and sang in school and church choirs. My favorite movies were musicals and they still are my favorite. Music was my major in college, which included singing, dancing, acting and playing musical instruments. I like all types of music. As a school teacher, I taught 3rd. grade through high school, everything from band and choir to musical theater. I also taught private students, of all ages, piano, guitar, voice and most of the wind instruments. *** Lesson Details *** My students can expect to learn the basics of music theory, such as melody, harmony, key signature and rhythm. I want my students to have fun by learning the kind of music they like best while learning to appreciate the kind of music that will develop their musical skills. Piano books like John Schaum and guitar books like Mel Bay's Guitar Method are good books to learn to read music and learn the proper way to play your instrument. Scale exercises are important for instrumental, as well as, vocal students. I use a practice log and CD-DVD recordings of my students so they can see and hear their progress. At the end of 6 months I want my students to play their favorite songs in 3 different keys. C, G and F Major. *** Studio Equipment *** Designated music room: Two keyboards, guitars, sound equipment, PA system, computers, seating for parents (he encourages it!) *** Travel Equipment *** Students need their own inst. I have one of every inst. to demo. except piano and guitar which I have 2 of each. *** Specialties *** Open-minded to all music. I specialize in performance. I help my students with their look, as well as, their sound. I know how to bring out the best in my students.

Michael is patient and low key. Takes his time to explaining concepts. I enjoyed my time with him.

It’s one thing to have the gift of teaching music, which Michael does. It’s another, entirely, to be able to relate to young students in a way that fires them up and keeps them excited.
