    About Melody G.

Cellist Melody G was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts. She began her musical studies at age 4, on piano at the New England Conservatory Preparatory School. However, after attending an inspiring performance by Yoyo Ma she became enthralled with the deep tone and colors of the cello. Her heart was set on playing “the big violin”. Melody began playing the cello at age six and has since concertized throughout America Europe, China, South America, and Central America as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral player in venues such as Carnegie Hall, Jordan Hall, and Symphony Hall among others. Most recently, Melody was invited to perform for Boston Guitarfest’s “Emerging Artist Concert” at NEC’s Jordan Hall. In 2013 she was an orchestral member of the Britten-Pears Young Artiste Programme for the widely proclaimed production of Benjamin Britten’s, Peter Grimes opera. That same summer, she participated in Penderecki Academy of Westfalen, Germany as well as The Luslawice Academy Orchestra of Krakow, Poland under the direction of Krzysztof Penderecki. In 2012, Melody attended the International Holland Music Sessions, culminating a solo recital at Ruinkerk in Bergen, Netherlands. The previous summer, Melody was a participant of the Aims in Graz Orchestra where she held the position of assistant principal. Later that summer, Melody was invited to solo on Saint-Seans The Swan, with the orchestra of the Sienna Summer Music Festival. Melody has had the great privilege of working with prominent artists and teachers such as the Takacs Quartet, Seth Knopp, Violaine Melancon, and Natasha Brofsky, in addition to Vivian Weilerstein, James Buswell, Lucy Chapman, Benjamin Zander, and Hugh Wolff. While studying at New England Conservatory, Melody collaborated with pianist/harpsichordist John Gibbons for her senior recital. While attending the Peabody Conservatory, Melody’s string trio was invited to perform in a masterclass with Takacs Quartet. They were also invited to perform in the coveted “Thursday Noon Recital Series” in which Peabody showcases students who are hand-picked by faculty, who feel that they are among the most advanced performers at Peabody, ready to perform for a large audience. Melody was also invited to play as a soloist for the Thursday Noon Recital Series. A dedicated teacher, Melody is currently studying the Suzuki Method at the School For Strings in New York. Melody holds a private studio in addition to teaching for Harmony Program, a non-profit organization geared towards providing music education to low-income families of the NYC metro area. In addition, Melody is an early childhood music education teacher for Silver Music School, and teaches for Musika Lessons, online teaching database. Melody earned her Masters Degree from the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University under the tutelage of Alan Stepansky, and completed her Bachelor’s Degree at the New England Conservatory of Music under the instruction of Natasha Brofsky.
