    About Meghan W.

Earning a Bachelors of Music in Music Education (2006) and a Masters of Music in Vocal Performance (2011), I have the education to backup my extensive teaching experience. I have taught a variety of choirs, bands, private voice and piano students, and performance and audition preparation. I have also taught beginner's ear training, music history, and music theory courses. As a professional performer, I have performed with a variety of choirs/ chorales, symphonic orchestras, opera companies, and musical theater productions, both nationally and abroad. Lessons are focused on the individual strengths and needs of each student, and on achieving goals set by the student and myself. Lessons are casual and friendly, with an open atmosphere for learning and asking questions - curiosity is never a sin! I like to explain things from multiple angles and believe that performance and voice lessons are not only about learning the right song, but learning the practical techniques behind singing. I have struggled with Music Theory myself, so I'm always understanding and aware of students' progress. I have very friendly cats that live with me and I'm always eager to meet the families and pets of new students. Music is one of the most intimate forms of expression - let's see what we can discover together! *** Lesson Details *** All lessons are scheduled in advance. I can provide a written reminder if necessary. I attempt to reschedule as many lessons as possible but sometimes cancellations are unavoidable. I ask that any rescheduling or cancellations be given in advance, if possible. All lessons will end with a review of what we have learned and will also include a "homework" sheet if requested - this will help students to remember their practice assignments. Recitals! My students hold a recital twice a year, to showcase what they've learned and how they've grown. Family and friends are always welcome and there is no admission charge. Small receptions are held afterwards, and recordings are permitted. Audition and performance prep can be part of voice lessons, no extra charge. I work with a very accomplished professional accompanist who can also come to lessons, provide a recording, play a recital, etc. Students are responsible for all fees associated with booking the accompanist. *** Studio Equipment *** Electronic baby grand piano with pedal A large assortment of sheet music and books, all borrowable by students per studio policy. Music stand and chairs for those needing them. *** Travel Equipment *** I will attempt to provide all music and books necessary. If the student must purchase something, I will attempt to help you find the most affordable materials. Students must provide a piano or electronic keyboard. *** Specialties *** I am a classically trained singer in the Italian school of singing who has experience performing opera, oratorio, art song, musical theatre/broadway, and choral music. I have performed nationally and internationally in a variety of settings - I use this experience to drive my own teaching.
