    About Megan G.

Teaching music has always been a passion of mine. I enjoy spreading my passion with others. As a teacher and as a performer, I have great joy with seeing improvement from my students. I tailor every lesson with my students in a way that will serve their individual needs. I teach with encouragement, patience, and I believe that students will prosper in a positive environment. My lessons are intended to be fun and inspire my students in a positive environment that will lead to satisfying career or as a hobby. Ever since I could remember, I enjoyed singing and listening to different genres of music. When I was in high school, I immersed myself with choir. It was not until my sophomore year that I realized that I wanted to pursue music. I decided to take voice lessons with my choir director, Craig Gahnz. Within that year, he recommended that I study with Mezzo-soprano, Janet Hopkins. She has performed in prestigious venues such as: Metropolitan Opera and the Lincoln Center. She inspired me to work hard for my successes. As I entered my senior year in high school, our choir class (Chamber Singers) had the opportunity to travel to Sydney and Cairns, Australia. After graduating from Palm Desert High School, I pursued my music dream and attended the University of Redlands. I received my Bachelors of Music Performance in which I attended on a music scholarship. I have played minor and leading roles in several operas such as: Orfeo ed Euridice, Suor Angelica, and The Merry Widow. I have also competed in many competitions and ended as a finalist in the President's Honors finals and worked as a Soprano Section Leader in churches. For the last two years of my undergraduate career, I have tutored students in ear-training. I believe ear-training is a necessity for every performer. Overall, I am constantly working on my craft to be the best musician, teacher, and of course person that I can be. I have a strong desire to share my knowledge and my passion with others. I solemnly believe that if a student works hard, remains patient, and puts their heart into their passion, they will achieve their endeavors. Lesson Details: I will begin each lesson with warm-ups to prepare the student for their lesson. I will incorporate vocal exercises that will work the students' technique. We will then work on repertoire for the remainder of the lesson. I will always incorporate an ear-training activity in each lesson. If the student does not have a song, don't worry, during the first two lessons, I will help choose a piece for them along with recommending vocal repertoire books. I would expect my students to record their daily practicing in a journal. I would recommended a recorder to record your lessons. It would be VERY helpful for the student to refer back to their lessons and work on their craft. Travel equipment: If necessary, I can bring my keyboard. I would recommend that the student has a piano/keyboard in their home because it will help with their practicing.
