I have been privately trained for 18 years by highly acclaimed teachers around the region. I also record as a studio musician and perform regularly. I am very passionate about creating and teaching music, and I bring that energy and enthusiasm to every lesson I teach. Nothing is more rewarding to me than seeing a student play the song he or she has been longing to play. *** Lesson Details *** Learning an instrument should be fun! We will start with the basics, but learn songs as we go along to keep lessons fresh. I am very laid back and will never yell at you to practice, but every student should know that learning begins and ends with them. I understand that every student is different. and every student has a different set of goals they are looking to accomplish. I would not teach a 5 year old the same way I would teach a 35 year old. That being said, my students can expect to learn proper theory, technique, and will learn how to apply it. *** Travel Equipment *** I can bring a my guitar and music stand for guitar lessons, but would expect my students to have a keyboard or piano. *** Specialties *** My method depends on the age of the student, but I believe it is important to keep lessons interesting and fun. I use the Suzuki Method for piano and specialize in classical piano. I am also proficient at rock, pop, and blues. Before learning the songs the student wants, we have to go through the necessary theory. The books I use have fun songs within them to keep the learning interesting. For guitar, I like to focus on what the student likes, then mold my style to their preference in music. We will learn the names of the notes and chords, and I do stress the importance of scales, but I like to teach the songs the student wants to learn. I split the lesson in half. Half theory and scales, half learning a new song or jamming. If the student is very young, I like to use a book, but I do not find them necessary with the older students, unless the student requests it.
