About Matthew B.
I have a B.M. from Berklee College of Music with an emphasis in Folk, Bluegrass, and traditional music but can teach any style.
Would you like to have a better ear? Be able to hear chord changes quicker and translate that to your instrument? Or would you like to have a better grasp on theory and how to translate that knowledge onto your instrument?
While attending Berklee, I taught all music theory subjects (jazz and traditional harmony), ear training, counterpoint, and songwriting through the school and was involved in the tutoring department.
Are you looking to develop your songwriting? Would you like to write better lyrics? Or use a deeper theoretical knowledge to find new writing techniques and your unique voice?
While living in Boston, I received accolades and awards for songwriting from Berklee and the Boston music community and can pass along harmonic and lyrical techniques to allow you to become a better writer.
Whether you are new to music or a longtime musician looking for something new, I can provide material and methods to help you meet your goals and advance your musicianship.
I am fluent in Guitar and pedal steel guitar and have taught beginning to advanced students in all age groups.
If you want to expand your knowledge of music theory, improve your ear for hearing changes and complex chords, learn new songwriting techniques, and get to new places on your instrument get in touch!
*** Lesson Details ***
I like to tailor my lessons to meet long term student goals and provide them with simple and effective weekly materials to make sure that no part of the learning process is too overwhelming.
I give my students a strong technical foundation and provide them with materials they can easily work through and that will reinforce that new material as we work through it.
But most importantly, I make sure my students never lose the passion that brought them to music and give them an environment to face challenges and discover new aspects of the craft to incite musical and personal growth.
