I've been teaching piano privately for about 10 years. I've worked with mostly young children from ages  5- 10. I use popular music that would be easy for students to pick up by ear. I have a background in theater so I also use theater classics to teach. I also have many classical standards and folk songs that would be good to teach anyone how to play. I usually start with scales and basic music theory so the student knows what he or she is playing, and then I will move to fingering and playing.
