Madeline S. is a violin performer and teacher currently working in San Diego County. With music teaching experience since 2009, Madeline enjoys teaching students of all ages and levels. Madeline completed her Bachelor's Degree in Violin Performance from San Diego State University, where she studied violin pedagogy techniques through her degree and the SDSU String Academy program. As adapted from her own experience, Madeline's teaching philosophy promotes a healthy posture, proper technique, ear training, music theory, and ultimately a fun and encouraging learning experience. As a performer, Madeline's recent performances include the premiere of the Mozart's Requiem Ballet with San Diego City Ballet as the principal second violin. In August of 2014, she will once again perform with Opera Neo, where she was principal second violin for their August 2013 performance of Mozart's Marriage of Figaro. She has participated in music festivals around the world, such as Kastela Music Festival in Croatia as well as Bay View Music Festival in Michigan, where she performed as part of a string quartet in three concerts and as principle second violin in the opera production of Don Giovanni. Upon moving to San Diego, Madeline has played at venues such as Art Lab, Anthology Jazz Club, and the famous Sprekles Theatre. At Sprekles Theatre, she has performed with the San Diego City Ballet Orchestra in productions such as Swan Lake, Romeo and Juliet, The Firebird, and The Nutcracker. Aside from teaching and performing, Madeline provides string ensemble services for weddings and special occasions through her newly founded business as of 2014, Melodies by Madeline.

I am an experienced pianist and flutist, but I wanted to learn the violin for the sake of my soul! Ms. Madeline was able to craft a custom-designed lesson plan that perfectly matched my own needs and musical level. She is fun, laughs a lot, and the lesson flies by. I'm inspired to practice, and can't wait until our next lesson. I am especially impressed with her own level of musical ability, as I have seen her perform in numerous orchestra, ballet and opera performances. She is a gem!

I played guitar in middle school and began to learn violin in 10th grade. Madeline helped me learn scales and studies, and encouraged me to practice by awarding me with special arrangements (my favorites being Lord of the Rings and the Legend of Zelda theme songs.) As a freshman in college now, I'm studying biology but still participating in a local community orchestra. Madeline made lessons fun, and helped me with my AP music theory homework too. Strongly recommended.

My daughter, 7 years old, started learning the violin about a year ago, and she absolutely loves her violin lessons with Ms. Madeline! Ms. Madeline is a patient, encouraging, and knowledgeable teacher. She even helped us buy our first violin! I strongly recommend her.
