    About Luke F.

    Luke F. is a flute fellow at the New World Symphony. He is also a recent graduate of the Colburn School Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles, California where he studied with Jim Walker. While living in Los Angeles Luke has collaborated with artists such as Quatuor Ebene. Luke also has BM and MM degrees from the Eastman School of Music and Carnegie Mellon University, respectively. Luke has attended summer festivals including the National Orchestral Institute, the National Repertory Orchestra, Music Academy of the West, Aspen music festival, the National Symphony’s Summer Music Institute, and the Chautauqua music festival. Luke has participated in numerous competitions, placing 1st in the Rochester Flute Association’s Emerging Artist competition, and being a winner in the Pittsburgh Concert Society Young Artist Competition. He has also been a finalist in the Byron Hester and NSO Young Soloists competitions, and a prizewinner in the Chicago Flute Club Competition. Luke also enjoys teaching flute and has participated in numerous teaching programs, including Eastman’s “Music for All” outreach initiative and the Music Academy’s MERIT (Music Education Reinforces Intellect and Talent) program as a mentor to young musicians.

    The Colburn School

    A community engagement program that offers access to substantive, meaningful instruction for high-need students interested in learning in both a private and group setting. All students received a full-scholarship, including an instrument, weekly private lessons, weekly sections, full band rehearsals, as well as occasional master classes taught by the master teachers.

    Music Academy of the West

    The MERIT program provides musicians ages 11 to 17 with a two-week immersion in the Academy’s Summer School and Festival, along with mentoring from Academy Fellows. Participants take part in dynamic masterclasses and daily rehearsals, receive personalized training, and perform as part of a chamber ensemble. The program culminates each year with a public recital.
