I am a singer and performer, with a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from San Jose State University. I have been singing since I was 10 years old, beginning with musical theater and then training as an opera singer, and currently perform in operas, musicals, and as a concert soloist in the bay area.
I love teaching all levels and all ages, and I will cater your private lesson to your current skill level. In lessons, we will work on breathing and vocal exercises, good posture and support, and the singing and performance of songs. Voice lessons will help you with confidence, improve your range and posture, prepare you for auditions, solos, competitions, or even just for fun! Whether it is Broadway, classical, or folk singing, let me help you find your inner singer!
*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons are based on the classical technique of singing which focuses on breath support, and works for any style of singing you are interested in. In lessons we will begin with a few breathing exercises and then do some vocal exercises. After the warm-up portion of the lesson we will move on to repertoire. If there is a specific piece you want to work on with me I am happy to help you with it, and otherwise I will recommend a repertoire book for you to buy depending on the style you are interested in.
Singing is a lot of fun, and I always want my students to have fun. I have a lot of energy, am very supportive, and will create an environment in which you can grow as a singer, performer, and musician. But remember, it will take some work and practice on your part to become a better musician. The voice is like any other muscle, and you must practice in order for it to grow stronger. With regular practice outside of lessons, you will see in a matter of months that your range will begin to expand, you will have better posture and breath support, better musicianship and an easier time learning new music, and even more confidence.
*** Specialties **
I am a trained opera and classical singer, with a background in musical theater, so I am comfortable teaching either style. If I am teaching classical, I can help with the diction and pronunciation of Italian, German, and French, as well as English I teach the basic singing technique involving breath control, and resonance, and posture, but I also like to balance that with stage presence and the performance of the music. I am also proficient in music theory and can teach or tutor music theory for high school or college students.
I love working with both children and adults. I am excellent with teaching musical theater to kids and teens, and getting them ready for auditions at their school or local theater companies. I teach all levels from beginning to advanced in voice. For piano, I only teach beginning and I specialize in teaching this level to children. I try to make it fun and incorporate basic music knowledge into the lessons.

Lori is the best. My daughter is a singer-songwriter who has never had much formal training. As she approached her junior year in high school she announced that she would like to go to college for music. We toured her top choices and found out she needed some very specific skills she had not yet developed. Exasperated by her rejection of the instructors I found I told her to find her own instructor and let me know when she had. She found Lori online and we gave her a trial run. Lori is very talented skilled and patient. My daughter's singing and music theory abilities have soared since she began working with Lori. She got into her top school choice. One of the best music schools in the world for what she wants to do. I know Lori was a big part of making that possible.
