It is important to me that you are having fun and working on material you enjoy! I want you to love music and love your instrument and be confident in performing! I work carefully on musicianship skills and help you become comfortable in sight-reading and learning your music quickly and efficiently. I also like to give lots of fun exercises to do in your practice. Practice should be fun AND productive. You should look forward to singing every day! Technique, Presentation and Confidence building ... are three important focus areas. No more going to a lesson only to do the SAME thing week after week! I am a strong believer in differentiated instruction so you can develop and grow closer to your goals EVERY lesson!

About

Education ---
Lori holds a master's degree in Opera Performance from Longy School of Music. She is a graduate of the University of Maine where she earned her bachelor's degree in music education with a concentration in voice. Her teachers have included Nancy Ogle, Donna Roll, Mary Saunders-Barton (musical theatre) and currently Robert Honeysucker (classical) and Kevin Wilson (musical theatre).

Teaching Bio --
Lori has taught in just about every field of music including: general music, ... theory and composition, band, chorus, guitar, world drumming, piano and dramatic arts for grades K-12. She has also taught several music and movement classes as well as early exposure to music classes with pre-school - kindergarten students. In 2007 she was chosen to teach the children’s vocal portion of The Key West Symphony Orchestra’s summer children’s program: Sol-Fest.

She currently teaches voice for The Metropolitan Opera Guild in their Urban Voices program as well as for The Boston Symphony Orchestra at their program: Days in the Arts at Tanglewood, a summer program for young musicians and artists. She is adjunct voice professor at Lasell College in Newton, Ma and teaches voice and beginning piano privately in Somerville and West Newton as well as music exposure lessons for young children. Lori is also the director of the youth choir at Second Church of West Newton. In addition to numerous teaching accolades, in 2010, Lori was selected to serve as the Metropolitan Opera Guild's representative on the Music-In-Education National Consortium. She enjoys and encourages studying a wide variety of music including but not limited to classical, pop, braodway, opera, rock, contemporary, jazz, standards.

Performance Bio---
Lori has been performing on stage since her first dance classes at 4 years old. She showed an early love for the stage when, after her first dance recital, she ran up on stage and started singing for the parting crowd! Lori began singing in chorus, plays and as a soloist in the seventh grade. She became more and more involved in music and singing as she continued through school. She participated in every musical group or class her school had to offer and went on to study music in college.

Lori, a mezzo-soprano, is quickly becoming an in-demand performer in the Boston and the Northern New England region. She has been described by The Portland Press Herald as “extremely clever – and highly musical – performing satire to perfection.” In the past year she created the role of Lorena Cosburg in the world premiere of Holy Ghosts by Berklee College of Music professor & award-winning composer Larry Bell. Lori sang the roles of The Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors with Indian Hill Opera, Petra in A Little Night Music with Boston Opera Collaborative. She was also engaged as Third Spirit in The Magic Flute with MetroWest Opera and Alisa (cover) in Commonwealth Opera’s production of Lucia di Lammermoor. Most recently she appeared as the alto soloist in Project Bread’s Handel’s Messiah Sing.

In the 2008 season, Ms. L’Italien returned to her home state of Maine to perform with PortOpera, where she covered the role of Stephano in Romeo et Juliette and sang Dame Doleful in Too Many Sopranos. Later that season she sang the role of Maestra delle Novezia in Suor Angelica and covered the role of Mercedes, both with Boston Opera Collaborative. That winter, she was seen in the role of Diana in Salir el Amor del Mundo with Longy Early Opera. The spring of 2009 saw her performing the role of L’Enfant in MetroWest’s production of L’enfant et les Sortileges. Other opera credits include Prince Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus, Madame Kirstin in Captain Lovelock and Second Sisterin Beauty and The Beast, all at Longy School of Music.

Lori is no stranger to musical theatre or pop/contemporary and is a resident performer with Upstairs on the Square's concert series in Cambridge. In 2006 she performed with the professional troupe at Hackmatack Theatre in Berwick, Maine. This prompted her move to Boston so she could pursue more performance opportunities and her master’s degree in performance.

Most recently, Lori has been seen on the musical theatre stage as Sally Bowles in Kander and Eb's Cabaret (Theatre Company of Saugus), Lucy Harris in Wildhorn’s Jekyll & Hyde (Colonial Chorus Players) and Martha in Duncan Sheik’s 2007 hit Spring Awakening (F.U.D.G.E. Theatre Co.)
