My love of singing began with my mother. She is an amazing singer but didn't really receive training, so she encouraged me to pursue singing. I was in choirs since 3rd grade and started voice lessons in 8th grade. My senior year in high school I was part of a choir that was invited to sing on NPR's From The Top! It was a thrilling experience. I received a bachelor of music degree in vocal performance from Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, Georgia. I participated in choirs, musicals, and other performance venues, including two recitals. Since graduation I have moved to St. Louis to pursue singing and teaching. I am excited to share my love of singing with you! *** Lesson Details *** I want to facilitate your musical growth, working with you to reach your goal. Regardless of genre, good singing starts with a strong base built on posture, breathing, support, and vocal production. These skills are pivotal for singers at any age and vital for those who want to advance their skill level. As lessons progress, students will learn good musicianship skills, including sight reading and music theory. As they master the basics, they will learn to make the music their own and express themselves through the music. Each lesson will be different, as each student learns differently. Singing is very personal, as your voice is a big part of you. I will try to find what works for each singer to sing with ease and enjoyment. *** Studio Equipment *** I provide a piano and a music stand as well as a CD player if you have accompaniment CDs. *** Travel Equipment *** I would bring music at the beginning, but expect students to buy their own books. They would also need to provide a piano or keyboard. *** Specialties *** I was trained in classical music; I also love singing Broadway music and pop. But throughout all genres, there are similarities in singing. Learning good posture, breathing, vowels, etc. are valuable in any singing style.
