Lesson Details

I teach beginner guitar and I especially enjoy teaching first time guitarist whether young or old. With beginner guitar you can expect to learn the basics of the guitar. The first lesson you will learn how to play two chords and can actually learn to play a complete song. Lessons include correct finger positioning, knowledge of strings, basic tablature, rhythm patterns and simple chords. After beginner guitarists go on to learn more complex rhythm patterns and more advanced chord work. I will ... tailor a music instruction program specifically for you with you. I want your feedback on what you want. I want consistent feedback as you are paying me for your instruction. I have many students who just want to learn particular songs from artists such as Miley Cyrus, The Beatles, Miranda Lambert and Taylor Swift. I am fine with this method of instruction in fact many schools such as Old Town School of Folk Music uses this method. I think this method of learning particular songs (that interest the student) motivates them to more consistent practice. Setting goals is very important to maintaining consistency and direction and I work with you on a specific lesson plan. Students then can see progress and this in itself is motivating and track-able.

I come from a family of musicians and grew up with guitar and piano music in the house. I believe music is a gift to enjoy and develop. I began playing guitar and singing at the age of 13. I have played, taught and performed music since that time.
I have worked with musicians from various levels throughout the years in many different genres such as country, pop, folk and contemporary Christian music. I have also done some studio work. I have also played coffee shops and open mics in the ... Chicago area. For the past 10 years I have been a member of my church worship team playing guitar and singing. I hold a bachelors degree in Elementary Education from Northeastern Illinois University. Presently I teach both privately and in an academic after school program in Palatine, Il. I am very patient and actually truly enjoy my beginner guitar students. I love to see the look on their face when they finally play that first song.
