Masters of Music, Jazz Performance
About Lincoln A.

I am a professional jazz musician, actively teaching and performing in the Western Massachusetts music scene. In addition to years of live experience as well as teaching lessons, I have a Master's of Music degree in Jazz Performance from the University of Southern Maine, as well as a BA in Jazz Performance and Composition from Hampshire College in Amherst, MA.
*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons are catered directly to each student as an individual. Of course, the building blocks of music provide a basic foundation for every musician, but beyond that the possibilities are endless. The best way to approach each lesson is from your own perspective of what YOU want to learn. I can assess your strengths and weaknesses and help you get to the point where you can play what you want, when you want. My background in jazz and theory allows me to teach any style, and explain what is happening within the music, rather than just present a sheet of chords or scales. Ear training plays a big role in our lessons, with the goal of you being able to pop in a CD and be playing along with the song within a few bars. Of course, it takes work too! But my job is to make the "work" less like work and more like fun. Looking forward to meeting you, and playing music together!
*** Studio Equipment ***
Extra room for Music: all instruments, amps, seating for parents.
*** Travel Equipment ***
When traveling to students' home, I will bring my guitar, portable speakers w/ iPod hook-up, and any teaching papers I may need. The student is in charge of their own guitar / amp, etc.
*** Specialties ***
I enjoy all styles of music, and am capable of teaching all genres at a proficient level. I am primarily a jazz guitarist, and that is my area of expertise as well as what I am most passionate about. My knowledge in jazz gives me a broad knowledge of music theory - i.e. scales, modes, harmony, chord progressions, reading music, etc.
