Specialties

I am a classically trained singer and actor and have performed around the Twin Cities in both settings. I teach many genres of singing, using a solid technical approach to each. Though I focus on opera in my own singing, i am familiar with making adjustments for Musical Theater, etc.

Lesson Details

Piano: expected that each student practice a minimum of 15 minutes per day. Faber & Faber "Piano Adventure" series most commonly used, though we can use other books, if you have them already. Voice: expected that each student practice the exercises and songs a minimum of 20 minutes per day. Music will be assigned to each student according to their needs/level.

I am very passionate about teaching music and always look for new methods to help my students progress in an inspiring atmosphere. All are welcome!

After graduating from St. Olaf College in music, I have taught voice, piano and theater to a variety of ages in addition to performing in theaters around the Twin Cities including: The Guthrie Theater, Minneapolis Musical Theater, Skylark Opera, Bloomington Civic Theater, The Schubert Club and Mixed Precipitation.

I am equally comfortable ... in opera and non-musical theater training. In voice, I focus on teaching breathing foundations and technique in order to produce healthy singing voices. From there we can work on any kind of literature by layering it on top of a solid technique.

In teaching piano, I make each lesson fun and lively- a perfect beginner experience. I love coming up with individual plans for each student to help them succeed in the area that inspires them the most! I often have young children move around during the lesson while working on rhythm in order to keep them engaged.
