Kyle began playing trombone, guitar and electric bass at the age of ten. By the time he was a junior in high school he was playing professionally and acting as bandleader for a variety of events. Influenced by rock groups such as Led Zeppelin, jam bands such as Phish, jazz greats Ron Carter and Paul Chambers, and late-70’s funk groups like The Brothers Johnson, he imparts in his teaching style a unique blend of old and new. Kyle attended the renowned Berklee College of Music on scholarship studying performance, composition and music theory and has over ten years of professional music experience. He currently plays in and around Chicago with numerous groups including Bumpus, The Chicago Players, Falldown, and The Jin & Tonic Band. As bass player for The Hue, one of Chicago’s premier progressive rock bands, Jambase.com said, “Kyle continues to show his importance as one of the great up and coming bass players.” *** Lesson Details *** Kyle’s teaching philosophy adapts to many different learning styles, ages and levels of musicianship and will assure each student a fun, enjoyable and high quality experience. He works with students to tailor instruction to meet each players needs. *** Travel Equipment *** I provide materials and my own instrument, if needed I can also provide an amp. I expect the student to have their own instrument. *** Specialties *** I have a broad understanding of jazz and have been playing and teaching it for years. I also specialize in slap bass style, which I studied extensively at Berklee. I play in groups that range from jazz to country to funk.
