    Specialties
My method for teaching piano is to instruct students in technique, scales, chords, theory, sight-reading, and performance techniques to insure they are well rounded musicians. As far as singing methods go, I follow the bel canto method of teaching to ensure healthy singing. Specific styles of music that I have the most experience in include music theater, opera, light opera, and jazz standards. I am comfortable teaching other styles of music as well, such as popular songs that students might be ...
    Lesson Details
It is important to me that my students are excited about music they are working on, and enjoying their lessons. If the student is enjoying the songs they are playing, they are then motivated to practice. That is why I incorporate songs of their choosing into our lessons.

It is also important to me that my students are well-rounded and educated about music. That is why I incorporate lesson books, written theory, technique exercises, sight-reading, scales, arpeggios, and ear-training into ...

Rated 5 out of 5 by Love Kim! I've taken voice lessons from a few other people before Kim and I have to say she's been my favorite by far. Her great energy and passion for music and teaching always comes through so no matter how tired I am, I perk up as soon as we start. If I get stuck in a lesson, she always says "I really think you can do it!" and pushes me to try a bit harder -- sure enough, she's always right! Because of my crazy work schedule, I often have to change the day/time of our lesson and she's always accommodating, which I really appreciate. I really can't say enough good things about her, she's a great teacher and I strongly recommend her. November 14, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Mom of student Kimberly is very talented and a sweet person. My daughter is learning and I can hear the difference. Kimberly does her homework to prepare for my daughter especially since she is young and very modern in music, so Kimberly joins in her interest in getting my daughter more involved with the lessons. We are off to a good start. June 15, 2012

Rated 5 out of 5 by Kim Rocks She's professional, patient, attentive, encouraging, instructive and just overall a fantastic teacher. I am not someone who is comfortable singing in front of others, but I feel totally at ease with Kim which allows me to comfortably try things with my voice I'd never in a million years have tried at all in front of another person before. Rated 5 out of 5 by Piano Lessons I was very excited for the piano lessons and nervous about who will be teaching me but I shouldn't have been. Kimberly was excellent! She taught me the basics and some theory and I learned hoe to play a lot of cool songs. Although I only took 6 lessons, I took with me because of her the skills to learn much more and to become a better piano player. She was dedicated to teaching me the way to learn more on my own. I am so happy I chose her as my teacher. It was one of the best decisions in my life. If you want to have a magnificent experience she's the one to teach!! You were great and I thank you soooo much. Just FYI I am still practicing and learning more. Thank You!!!! September 6, 2011
  • Getting Started

Excited about jumping into music lessons? Before you can get to the guitar tabs, violin concertos, and vocal riffs, take a moment to think about the logistics of your lessons.
    Lesson Length
There are a few things to consider when choosing between 30-, 45- or 60-minute lessons. First and foremost, take your age and experience level into account. You'll also want to think about your long- and short-term goals, and the time you'll need to reach them. Most importantly, consider how long you or your child is able to stay focused.
    Lesson Location
Teachers have the option to display availability for in-home, in-studio, and online music lessons. In-home lessons take place at your house, in-studio lessons are conducted at the teacher's home or professional studio, and online lessons are taught over the internet via live video chat.

    Payment and Billing
We make paying for your lessons convenient and hassle-free! Prices vary based on several factors, including the city you live in, the length of your lessons, and whether you're taking them at home, in your teacher's studio, or online. Lessons are paid for in advance, which locks in your time slot.
    Signing Your Customer Agreement
Signing your Customer Agreement and completing your Student Questionnaire is the last step! The questionnaire will give your instructor valuable information about your goals and experience level, and give him or her time to create a customized lesson plan right from the start.

    Start Your Lessons

Now the excitement can really begin! Consider the following to ensure an exceptional first lesson...
    Prepare for Your First Lesson
Once you've completed the last step, your teacher will call you within the next couple of days to confirm your first lesson time and provide you with directions to their studio, if needed. We also encourage you to discuss your goals and any other questions you may have.
    What To Expect
Every teacher is different, but most first lessons begin with an assessment of where you are in your studies. At a beginner level, you might review the basics of your instrument, such as the different parts, how to hold it correctly, and proper care and maintenance. For voice, this may be the time you learn about breathing and posture.
    Reach the Goals You Set
Every TakeLessons student is unique, and so is your lesson plan! You'll work with your instructor to develop a plan suited to meet your specific goals. Most TakeLessons instructors will also keep track of your progress with a lesson journal.
