Overview

I am a classically trained singer and pianist. I have a Vocal Performance degree from Georgia State University, and I have performed professionally both as a singer and as a pianist. I have loved music as long as I can remember. I began studying piano at the age of six, and I have been singing as long as she can remember.

Although I have classical degree, I have experience performing in a variety of musical styles including musical theater, popular music, and jazz. Performance experience includes roles in operas, musical theater, theme parks such as Six Flags Over Georgia, performing as a church soloist, and singing back-up for singers such as Kenny Loggins and George Benson. Recent performances include performing as a soloist for the Lincoln Outreach Program and singing the role of "Parthenope" for the World Premiere of The Odyssey at the 92nd St. YMCA in New York City. I founded the Musical Theater Alliance of Georgia State University, and I have won various awards and competitions such as 1st Place for the Classical Division, and 3rd Place for the Musical Theater Division of the National Association of Teachers of Singing Competition.

My students have performed for their schools, all-state choruses, musical theater productions, and have received excellent grades in the National Piano Guild auditions. I have taught with two companies as well as independently for the past eight years. I teach students based of their specific needs and interests while incorporating technique, theory, and overall music knowledge. I like to incorporate games for younger students to make the learning process fun.

*** Lesson Details ***
It is important to me that my students are excited about music they are working on, and enjoying their lessons. If the student is enjoying the songs they are playing, they are then motivated to practice. That is why I incorporate songs of their choosing into our lessons.

It is also important to me that my students are well-rounded and educated about music. That is why I incorporate lesson books, written theory, technique exercises, sight-reading, scales, arpeggios, and ear-training into our lessons. I like for my students to not just enjoy music, but also to understand it.

To make lessons more exciting for younger students, I like to incorporate games, flash cards, and stickers.

For Voice lessons, I focus on a relaxed and healthy technique, combined with theory and a strong music knowledge. Not only to I want my voice students to sing in a healthy way, but I also want them to be strong musicians.

Most importantly, I love music! I want to give you the foundation and motivation to help you achieve your musical goals!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Living Room with Keyboard

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will provide flashcards and music games if applicable. I will need the student to provide a keyboard or piano. I will bring books to the students and ask them to reimburse me.

*** Specialties ***
My method for teaching piano is to instruct students in technique, scales, chords, theory, sight-reading, and performance techniques to insure they are well rounded musicians. As far as singing methods go, I follow the bel canto method of teaching to ensure healthy singing. Specific styles of music that I have the most experience in include music theater, opera, light opera, and jazz standards. I am comfortable teaching other styles of music as well, such as popular songs that students might be interested in learning.

Love Kim!

I've taken voice lessons from a few other people before Kim and I have to say she's been my favorite by far.

Her great energy and passion for music and teaching always comes through so no matter how tired I am, I perk up as soon as we start. If I get stuck in a lesson, she always says "I really think you can do it!" and pushes me to try a bit harder -- sure enough, she's always right! Because of my crazy work schedule, I often have to change the day/time of our lesson and she's always accommodating, which I really appreciate.

I really can't say enough good things about her, she's a great teacher and I strongly recommend her.

Mom of student

Kimberly is very talented and a sweet person. My daughter is learning and I can hear the difference. Kimberly does her homework to prepare for my daughter especially since she is young and very modern in music, so Kimberly joins in her interest in getting my daughter more involved with the lessons. We are off to a good start.

Kim Rocks

She's professional, patient, attentive, encouraging, instructive and just overall a fantastic teacher. I am not someone who is comfortable singing in front of others, but I feel totally at ease with Kim which allows me to comfortably try things with my voice I'd never in a million years have tried at all in front of another person before.

Piano Lessons

I was very excited for the piano lessons and nervous about who will be teaching me but I shouldn't have been. Kimberly was excellent! She taught me the basics and some theory and I learned hoe to play a lot of cool songs. Although I only took 6 lessons, I took with me because of her the skills to learn much more and to become a better piano player. She was dedicated to teaching me the way to learn more on my own. I am so happy I chose her as my teacher. It was one of the best decisions in my life. If you want to have a magnificent experience she's the one to teach!! You were great and I thank you soooo much. Just FYI I am still practicing and learning more. Thank You!!!!
