I am a classically trained singer and pianist. I have a Vocal Performance degree from Georgia State University, and I have performed professionally both as a singer and as a pianist. I have loved music as long as I can remember. I began studying piano at the age of six, and I have been singing as long as she can remember.
Although I have classical degree, I have experience performing in a variety of musical styles including musical theater, popular music, and jazz. Performance experience includes roles in operas, musical theater, theme parks such as Six Flags Over Georgia, performing as a church soloist, and singing back-up for singers such as Kenny Loggins and George Benson. Recent performances include performing as a soloist for the Lincoln Outreach Program and singing the role of "Parthenope" for the World Premiere of The Odyssey at the 92nd St. YMCA in New York City. I founded the Musical Theater Alliance of Georgia State University, and I have won various awards and competitions such as 1st Place for the Classical Division, and 3rd Place for the Musical Theater Division of the National Association of Teachers of Singing Competition.
My students have performed for their schools, all-state choruses, musical theater productions, and have received excellent grades in the National Piano Guild auditions. I have taught with two companies as well as independently for the past eight years. I teach students based of their specific needs and interests while incorporating technique, theory, and overall music knowledge. I like to incorporate games for younger students to make the learning process fun.
*** Lesson Details ***
It is important to me that my students are excited about music they are working on, and enjoying their lessons. If the student is enjoying the songs they are playing, they are then motivated to practice. That is why I incorporate songs of their choosing into our lessons.
It is also important to me that my students are well-rounded and educated about music. That is why I incorporate lesson books, written theory, technique exercises, sight-reading, scales, arpeggios, and ear-training into our lessons. I like for my students to not just enjoy music, but also to understand it.
To make lessons more exciting for younger students, I like to incorporate games, flash cards, and stickers.
For Voice lessons, I focus on a relaxed and healthy technique, combined with theory and a strong music knowledge. Not only to I want my voice students to sing in a healthy way, but I also want them to be strong musicians.
Most importantly, I love music! I want to give you the foundation and motivation to help you achieve your musical goals!

*** Specialties ***
My method for teaching piano is to instruct students in technique, scales, chords, theory, sight-reading, and performance techniques to insure they are well rounded musicians. As far as singing methods go, I follow the bel canto method of teaching to ensure healthy singing. Specific styles of music that I have the most experience in include music theater, opera, light opera, and jazz standards. I am comfortable teaching other styles of music as well, such as popular songs that students might be interested in learning.
