I have been a full-time multi-instrumentalist and arranger since 2007. I have recorded and arranged for hundreds of artists, both in the studio and on the stage. As a horn player I have performed in nearly every genre imaginable, including jazz, afrobeat, rock, pop, country, cabaret, disco, funk, and free improv, among others. In 2006 I was a founding member of the band Beirut, playing brass and woodwinds, and providing arrangements for albums and concerts, including full-orchestral arrangements for a performance at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in 2009. In addition to touring the world several times over, I performed with Beirut on national television in the US, UK, EU, and Australia. In 2007-08 I was a touring member of Arcade Fire’s Neon Bible world tour, playing trumpet, flugelhorn, French horn, flute, and euphonium. I have touring and recording stints with many other bands, including LCD Soundsystem, The Antlers, and David Byrne’s project Contemporary Color (of which I was also arranger), in addition to being music director for the aforementioned David Byrne/St. Vincent and Father John Misty. I also have a large discography, having recorded with artists from Coldplay to Anthony Braxton, from Passion Pit to The War on Drugs, and everywhere in between.

After graduating from the University of Kentucky with a degree in music, I moved to New York where I lived for 11 years. I have been a professional multi-instrumentalist since then and a member of many bands including Beirut and Arcade Fire. I have also performed and/or recorded with many others including David Byrne, Passion Pit, Coldplay, and LCD Sound system. I have performed in dozens of countries, at some of the world's biggest festivals (Bonnaroo, Coachella, Glastonbury), and on many television shows (Colbert, Letterman, Fallon). I have experience in playing and teaching many different styles and can teach you what YOU want to learn. Playing music can be a very rewarding experience, but should also be fun. I can promise you will have fun in our lessons and have fun with music in general. *** Lesson Details *** We will focus first and foremost on what you would like to learn on your instrument, whether it be specific songs, styles, or a more general approach to your instrument or music-making. I have taught students of all ages on many different instruments and can work with anyone at any skill level. *** Studio Equipment *** Trumpet, flugelhorn, French horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, flute, clarinet, saxophone, drum kit, keyboards, piano, organ, guitar, bass, ukelele, accordion, mandolin, various synthesizers, various percussion, and recording rig. *** Travel Equipment *** I can bring any portable instrument, and any sheet music required for our lesson. *** Specialties *** For brass I am a strong proponent of the Carmine Caruso method. As for genres I am most well versed in jazz, rock, and classical.
