Hi there! My name is Kelley, and I have been teaching private lessons since 2009. I have over 20 years of playing experience and received a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance in 2011 from the University of Washington. In 2013-14, I helped prepare students for participation in the Bach Festival and the Classical Viennese Festival, as well as the Washington State Solo and Ensemble Contest. A big part of my teaching philosophy revolves around understanding the why's: why does this piece of music make me feel the way I do? Why does this particular passage sound good to me? Why should I bring out this phrase? Conversely, why is this section not sounding the way I want it to sound, and how do I fix it? Being a good musician and pianist, to me, means being well-rounded and understanding all aspects of music--the theory, the history behind a piece or composer, the emotion and character a piece takes on, and the story in what the music is telling us.
