    About Katie B.

Music is magical! There was a point in my life when I realized for me to be completely happy, I must learn to play guitar . Since then, there's been no turning back. It wasn't until college when I picked up the guitar. I attended The Collective School of Music NYC for over two years. There, I studied with some of the best teachers and professional musicians in New York City. Since then, I've been teaching, songwriting, and performing. My favorite genre of music is vintage honky tonk, but not limited to.  *** Lesson Details *** I teach in a simple, straight forward and laid back manner. My first priority is to learn what the student's goals and aspirations are. What does the student hope to gain from the experience. One of the first instructions will be how to tune and care for the instrument if necessary. Then we will journey into notes of the strings and the fret board. A major focus will be on chord shapes, and common chord progressions. The student will be taught major and minor scales. We will trade back and forth between comping and improvising. We'll explore simple song forms like a 12 bar blues. If the student is interested in learning how to read music, I will teach and assign lessons from a great beginner book that I first learned from. There are many great beginner books I learned from that I love to share with my students. In 6 months, my goal for the student is to have a foundation of all the above (reading optional), along with knowing how to play some of their favorite songs, and other classic guitar songs. Specific lessons and goals can also be arranged depending on student's ability and goals. *** Studio Equipment *** Separate room with amps, chairs, space for parents or guardians to lounge. I have a computer set up that provides me with pro tools. There is a desk, music stands, keyboard, bass and guitar stands. I have 3 electric guitars and two acoustic guitars. There is a guest bathroom right across the hall of the music room inside my apartment.
