I am a patient, enthusiastic teacher in the following areas: piano, violin, cello, drums, music history, and music theory. I have taught vocal and instrumental music in both Catholic and Public schools, and in after-school programs, for 20 years, and have been giving private lessons for 9 years. I enjoy teaching music to all age students, and especially enjoy watching my students grow in their music ability.

I received my Bachelor of Arts from Marygrove College in Detroit in Language Arts with minors in Music Education and History, and my Masters Degree from Wayne State University in Education with emphasis on English as a Second Language and Sign Language for the Deaf. I have studied Music Education for K-5 at Madonna University in Livonia, Michigan.

*** Lesson Details ***
Piano: All students start out learning both Treble and Bass Clefs, and their lines and spaces. Each student then starts to learn their major scales with both right and left hand for piano. They also learn the note values, and are able to put them together in a song. I use Michael Aaron curriculum, which takes in all of the above and their technique lessons. I use all the Michael Aaron Book One, Lessons, Theory, Technic, and Performance Books for any student that is age 6 and above and I would asked that parents would buy them from Anderson Music in Dearborn, Michigan as well as any other lesson books listed below before they come to my home for lessons.

Cello: Using String Builder and Strictly Strings, the students learn the bass clef, lines and spaces, scales, and songs. Students will learn how to hold their bow correctly.

Violin: Using String Builder and Strictly Strings, students will learn lines and spaces of the treble clef, note values, major scales, and songs. Students will learn how to hold their bow correctly.

Drums: Using Rockin’ Rhythm Raps, and using drum pads instead of drums, students will learn the correct way to hold drum sticks and the rhythms of all the notes in the treble and bass clefs. They will also learn songs to play.

*** Studio Equipment ***
upright piano w/ seating for parents

*** Specialties ***
I enjoy teaching beginners in any area, because then you can see how far they have come at the end of the year.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Playing piano after 2 lessons I am learning how to read notes and understanding how music is written along with timing and playing. I am very happy to be able to sit at my piano which I never played before and actually play simple songs using both hands after two sessions. Thank you!! January 28, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by The teaching approach is great, the learning and lessons productive. Kathy is extremely knowledgeable about piano and music. I am thrilled with the fact that you are not pressured into learning, but are enthusiastic about completing lessons simply because of the approach Kathy takes to teaching. Thus far, I am very pleased with having the opportunity to learn from her and would highly recommend Kathy to anyone interested in playing an instrument. Kudos to Kathy! December 4, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Wonderful Kathy has shown such patience and professionalism with our son. Although it appears he has an ear for music she is teaching him how to read, write and play music. His math at school has shown great improvement. I would not want anyone else teaching my son. November 25, 2013

Rated 5 out of 5 by Highly Recommended Kathy is a very experienced pianist and cellist, as well as a great instructor. I've always wanted to play the piano and finally decided to do something about it. I'm learning a lot. I'm an adult student with a full-time job, so my practice time is limited. Kathy understands that and is a very patient instructor. April 27, 2013
