About Me

Kat is an enthusiastic and patient contemporary string player specializing in teaching violin and viola. Growing up she played violin and viola in school and community orchestras, as well as bass in jazz bands and small ensembles. She is a graduate of Berklee College of Music, where she studied viola/violin with Mimi Rabson, who is leader of the Really Electric String Quartet and has toured with Itzhak Perlman on his klezmer project, and Melissa Howe of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Lesson Details

Kat has been teaching private lessons for the last 6 years. She has worked as a camp counselor, teaching violin/viola, music theory, and conducting orchestra, and as a private music theory, ear training, and arranging tutor at Berklee College of Music. Kat is well versed in most styles of music including: jazz, classical, fiddle/folk, world music, latin, and rock. During lessons Kat covers a wide range of topics ranging from how to care for and hold the instruments, sight-reading, improvisation, theoretical knowledge, and composition. Kat likes to focus on what students want to learn, and pushing them to try challenging themselves. Kat is also a very patient and kind teacher with an understanding of how to make lessons fun for students of all ages and levels.

How To Sign Up

Review the TakeLessons teachers in your area. Find the teacher you like the best and either book online or call/email a TakeLessons Student Counselor to book your lessons. You will then choose a day and time that works best for you, select your lesson package and pay via credit or debit card to book your lessons.

After you have booked your lessons, your instructor will contact you within 1-2 days. This gives the instructor a chance to introduce him or herself, and make sure everything is set for your first lesson.
