Lesson Details
The lesson is where musical exploration takes place! Lots of students have little or no experience on the violin, and starting out with strong basics is key to making the violin an invaluable part of a new musician's life. I generally start with the Suzuki method which offers a solid basis in hand position and ear training. From there I vary my curriculum to work with the advancement of my student. Since I've played for years in improvisational music settings I always try to get my students

to create their own music. With either the basic musical training or improvisation I add a little music theory and listening technique, along with encouraging the student to listen to a wider range of music.
One of my main points of emphasis is on the idea of learning how to practice. A teacher cannot go home with the student and it's very important to me that, in the time between lessons, the student knows how to apply everything they learned in the lesson. I also try to involve the parents during the lesson and while at home; teaching them a bit on the instrument helps them participate in the musical life of the student and even might get them to pick up a fiddle!
From Bowling Green, OH to Peru, South America to Boston, MA I have always found the joy and fun in making music. I'm a highly trained violinist who graduated from the Boston Conservatory in December, and since then I've been actively working as a gigging musician in Boston's live music scene.
Music is my way of sharing joy and fun with the people in my community, and I feel that it's the best lifestyle I could possibly have. My students help make that community even better and stronger.

Music not only gives them a healthy group to belong to but a creative space to be themselves.
I've set up a student orchestra in Tacna, Peru, played in jazz bands and combos, made music for tango dancers, and performed in countless orchestras and small ensembles. I have taught to all age groups and, after graduating with my master's degree in music performance and education, I feel that I'm ready for any teaching situation!
