Specialties

Clarinet: I use Klose method and Rose studies
Music Performance and Theory: I can use any text the student has. I will supplement with exercises created just for them.
Piano: I have used John Thompson the most, but also like to use whatever the student has and adapt.

Lesson Details

I try to incorporate any existing music the student already owns. If there is none, I utilize John Thompson books, supplementing with custom note pages for each student. When taking lessons from me, expect light-hearted instruction, learning something new every lesson.

Seeking to learn by doing, I instruct using the immersion method, applying music theory as it occurs in the books or exercises. Beginning students can expect to learn proper hand placement, two-handed playing, basic chords ... and transposition within the first 3 months.

My goal is to make music fun and I encourage sharing music through recital programs.

About

I grew up in a musical home, with two music teaching parents. I have continued their love of music through my own teaching and performance for over 25 years. I currently am furthering my own music education, while performing in community bands and theater musicals on both clarinet and piano.

I like to leave each student with a positive feeling of accomplishment, and try very hard to gauge how much and when to challenge or to chill. Individual, custom lessons are my forte. I would love to be ... by your side, creating music and not just playing notes.
