A little bit about me: Admired for her rich tone and fluid technique throughout the instruments range, flutist Julia B. is an active performer and teacher in the Los Angeles area. As a soloist she has performed with the San Diego Symphony, San Diego Chamber Orchestra, and the UCLA Symphony. She has recently performed with the Le Grange Symphony, Midland Symphony, and LA Dream Orchestra as well as chamber ensembles such as the LA Grand Ensemble and Spirati Woodwind Quintet. She completed her Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) degree in flute performance at the University of California at Los Angeles, where she studied with Sheridon Stokes. For her Master of Music, Ms. B. studied with Christina Jennings at the University of Colorado at Boulder, and attended Rice University for her Bachelors Degree under the tutelage of Leone Buyse. Ms. B. has also taught in the Santa Monica/Malibu District, and is currently teaching elementary music in the Manhattan Beach Unified School District. My thoughts on teaching: Teaching brings joy to my life. I love instructing flute students of all ages and experience levels, and find that they often teach me just as much as I teach them. While I want my students to excel, above all I hope they come away from lessons with a greater appreciation and understanding of the incredible power of music. In an average lesson we will address: -Fundamentals of flute playing from breathing and posture to tone production and articulation -Tone exercises -Scales and technique -Etudes -Solo works -Duets -Fundamentals of music theory through games and exercises I am currently accepting private students into my Los Angeles flute studio. I am available to teach at your home or my studio in Pacific Palisades. Please contact me if you have any questions about flute lessons, or music theory lessons. *** Travel Equipment *** I can provide a music stand and the required books for the first lesson, but will expect the student to acquire those books once we get started.
