I am the Principal Percussionist of the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. I received my percussion education first from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra's Percussion Scholarship Program. I received my Bachelor of Percussion Performance at DePaul School of Music, and did Master studies at Carnegie Mellon. *** Lesson Details *** I am very fun overall and am looking to teach as much as the student is willing to work to learn. A beginner will learn how to read time signatures, quarter, eighth and sixteenth notes, play at least a page long snare drum solo and perform a double stroke roll and other rudiments.  *** Equipment *** I would like the student to have a Remo practice pad and stand or comparable, a pair of Vic Firth SD1 Sticks or comparable, a music stand and an inexpensive metronome. *** Specialties *** Orchestral (Snare Drum, Xylophone, Timpani, etc), Drumset, African Drumming (Talking Drum, Djembe, Kalimba) Brazilian Pandeiro, Frame Drum, Latin Percussion, Audition Preparation and Music/Performance Philosophy

Joshua genuinely cares about how I'm progressing and learning. The way he has broken down the basics so that I can get a better understanding of the drums is something no other teacher has done. He has an innate feel for what it is that you need to improve. Even after a few lessons , I see a great difference and my approach has changed, for the better. I cannot recommend him highly enough. He is excellent!!

My daughter was lucky enough to learn from Joshua when he was an assistant director for the Percussion Scholarship Group in Chicago. Joshua is an amazingly talented musician, and he constantly displayed his passion for teaching and imparting his knowledge to anyone at any time. He has an incredible rapport with young students and has my full recommendation. George Hemesath, Admin Officer, Chicago Police Department
