Lesson Details

I am wholly about creating, developing, and nurturing a learning environment with any student through a collaboration of teacher, student, and parent. In this manner, learning becomes unhindered and more effective. This is due to the fact that as a teacher, I am here to adapt to the students' needs, and thus I customize all of my lessons to fit the needs of the student in question. Part of this environment that I create is also due to my own energetic and unorthodox personality. In my ... lessons, I am not done until my message has been understood, applied, reapplied, tinkered with, re-understood, and finally manipulated to fit the student's own personal expression. So, each individual lesson is about progressing.

Depending on the level of the student, I will always adapt to their needs. I use various books and supplements to aid me, yet most of my curriculum is derived from teaching the basics (breathing, proficiency/mastery over the instrument, musicality and expression, and all its derivatives), and applying them.

During the first couple of lessons, I teach so the student attains a working knowledge of the instrument (or proper breathing and vocalization for singers) through the understanding musical notation, the learning of one-octave scales and arpeggios and basic musical expression in repertoire appropriate for the student. After the first couple of months, it is my goal for my students to understand what it is to make and create music, because I will always strive to get my students to a level where playing a piece of music becomes enjoyable to both the performer and the audience.

Overall, my teaching style is known to change from student to student. However, I always expect my students to give as much input as I do...which here means about 100%.

About

I am a enthusiastic and energetic teacher currently in my 3rd year of the BA in Music Education program at California State University Fullerton. I currently play bassoon in the top wind ensemble and saxophone in the jazz band. Through my studies, I have learned all woodwind and brass instruments, violin, and piano at a proficient level.

Most importantly....

I believe that music should always be enjoyable and entertaining, and it is my goal to create such an environment that the ... learning process is not hard and arduous, but feasible, satisfying, and delightful. It is my passion to teach and to see my students' dreams succeed, whether it be through careful instruction, or haphazard and wild music-making. I learn to adapt to my students, to my peers, and to anyone around me very fast, so there are no worries in not getting the highest quality education.
