Specialties
I specialize in acoustic rhythm guitar, particularly with making it into a more percussive instrument. I encourage my students to gain independence between their hands early on, so that they can shape more elaborate strumming patterns in composition and emulate their favorite songs more accurately.
I also favor blues improvisation, chord theory, hybrid picking, finger-picking, and lead guitar on both acoustic and electric steel-string instruments.

Good music is driven by our passions, and in turn can inspire that passion in others. I want my students to be reminded why they pick up that instrument: not just to do something, but to feel something. instrument, so we can get the most out of our time together. Music is a form of expression, so it follows that this expression is unique from person to person. I reflect this in my lessons by letting the student decide what direction they'd like to go, and giving them a good shove!
I try to get my students playing songs of their choosing as soon as possible. For most people, interest in an instrument comes from hearing a certain song and thinking, "That. I want to do that. Now." So, building a repertoire is our number one priority.

I've been playing guitar for over 12 years, and I've been teaching private lessons for the past 3 years. I started picking up bass two years ago, and I'm in the process of learning piano, too!
In January 2011, I got a job teaching group classes to students at Oquirrh Mountain Charter School in Kaysville. I'm
