Skill level, Commitment in practicing the instrument on a daily basis. Style of learning and style of music assessed. Second, some goals need to be set for the student. Where does the student want to be 6 months from now. Third, Half of the time spent teaching the lesson, the other half spent applying the lesson with the student. Style of teaching is motivated by the student, progress can be made quickly by a disciplined student.
