John is a fresh young guitarist bringing an eclectic mix of jazz and acoustic roots styling to the music of today. Originally from New Zealand, John grew up playing blues and funk. John is from a musical family with strong influences from jazz to classical. Initially self-taught, John was awarded multiple scholarships to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Professional Music (concentrations in jazz performance and composition) with honors. John has studied with Julian Lage, Mick Goodrick, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Ed Tomassi, Taylor Eigsti, Ingrid Jensen, Lage Lund and Wayne Krantz. As a professional performer, he has played with an array of people and artists in a variety of different genres. His performance schedule has included a variety of shows in the US, South Korea, Sweden and New Zealand, including performances with Ernie Isley, Robin McKelle, Jason Anick, Adam Rudolph's Go:Organic Orchestra and opening performances for Jackson Browne and Willie Nelson. John's work as artist and educator helps keeping the tradition of American Roots music. Recently John was featured at Mark O'Connor String Camp in Boston as a staff accompanist and session leader. As a featured performer at the GreyFox Bluegrass Festival 2013 in NY, he played with premier Roots musicians Matt Glaser, Joe Walsh and Matt Munisteri. John's fretboard stylings incorporate a plethora of acoustic and traditional musical streaming, including from traditional to contemporary jazz, American Roots, Celtic, Broadway and big band. His work with numerous artists catalogs can be heard internationally and his concert work is not to be missed. "Most Spirited Player" - Alison Brown (Grammy Award Winner) "A Rhythm Machine" - Matt Munisteri John is endorsed by Xotic Effects, Mono Cases and Acoustic Image Amplifiers. *** Lesson Details *** I have been teaching worldwide (Sweden, South Korea, New Zealand, USA) for multiple years and have taught young children, high school music perspective students, business professionals and college students. I'm down to earth type of person and I really do care everyone beyond just being a student. I couldn't care more about connecting with students (I hate this word, I'd prefer 'friends') individually as human beings with respect. I specialize in jazz, blues, singer-songwriting style, R&B and Americana music(bluegrass, country, folk, celtic, old time) on many different instruments. Depends on what you want, I have a lot of materials that I have collected through out the years with teaching different situations. For example you are a starter with no knowledge on guitar but want to accompany yourself at local open mics or you might wanna shred some dirty blues. Contact me. *** Studio Equipment *** I have professional equipments that will provide us to have amazing time playing music together. *** Travel Equipment *** I can travel with Guitar, Mandolin and effects . *** Specialties *** Jazz, Blues, Bluegrass, Celtic, Americana, Folk, R&B, Rock. *** Notable Performances *** • Opening performance for Jackson Browne at the House of Blues Boston • Opening performance for Willie Nelson at the Agganis Arena • Performing with Ernie Isley(from Isley Brothers)’s band at Café 939 • Performing with premier roots fiddler Matt Glaser at Club Passim • Featured soloist at Adam Rudolph’s Organic Orchestra at Modern Museum in Stockholm, Sweden • Featured artist at the Mark O’Connors String Camp Faculty Concert at Berklee Performance Center

Amazing teacher! John is a superb teacher. He really listens to your goals and tailors lessons to meet those goals. By the end of my first class, I already learned my first song on the mandolin. He is very professional and comes exactly on time for every single lesson; he has never canceled on me. I really recommend John as a teacher!
