About Joel J.

Hi! I have been teaching for over seven years and am no stranger to the stage. While majoring in music performance at the University of West Georgia, I performed with jazz ensembles, guitar quartets, and percussion ensembles. I also performed many solo classical guitar recitals. The only thing I love more than performing, is teaching and sharing music.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons generally include three parts with content depending on your level of experience: technique, repertoire, and theory. I am an enthusiastic although laid back teacher, however I do push my students in order for them to realize themselves as a musician. I like to have fun with lessons because music is fun and I enjoy it. I hope you do too!
Literature used in lessons:
New Dimensions in Classical Guitar for Children, By Sonia Michelson
The Christopher Parkening Guitar Method
Diatonic Major and Minor Scales, By Andres Segovia
Guitar Aerobics, By Troy Nelson
John Brimhall's Complete Theory Notebook, by of course John Brimhall
*** Studio Equipment ***
The In-Studio lessons are taught in the living room with 3 guitars, 1 bass, and an amp. Seating available. No pets.
*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide everything needed during the first lessons. After which the student shall provide a music stand, tuner, guitar, and all literature.
*** Specialties ***
Specialty in classical guitar, improvisation, and music theory.

My first lesson with Joel was great. I was able to learn more that I expected and had a great time learning. Looking forward to doing my homework and to completing additional lessons with Joel.

I am so impressed with Joel. My son loves him. He is so patient, laid-back and easy going. But he is also very knowledgable and motivated. Great guy. Great teacher. We're very happy.
