    About Jim D.

I am a graduate of the Professional Music program at Berklee College of Music in Boston, where I studied from 1986-1990. Since then I have taught students of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. My specialty is helping you understand the body mechanics required for drumset playing, snare drum, and percussion techniques. There are tricks of the trade and various ways to teach them. I will find the way that suits your learning style, while teaching you to perform the skills properly and proficiently. I will teach you to read drum notation. I can also gear my teaching toward your goals, whether it be to join a band, orchestra, or school band. *** Lesson Details *** For the first three months, I will hand write your curriculum, based on your skill level and goals. A voice recorder is suggested so you will be able to review what you learned in your lessons. Practice is required. After the first three months we will use pre-written curricula . Lessons are completely individualized, so I will make my goals your goals, and constantly (yet patiently!) challenge you to go a step farther. I have children of my own, and I enjoy teaching students as young as 8-10 years and on up into high school. College students and adults will benefit from my broad knowledge of modern music and proper techniques. I teach on both electronic and acoustic drumsets. *** Studio Equipment *** acoustic drum set, electric drum set. additional seating for parents. *** Travel Equipment *** Drumset and/or snare drum and practice pad provided by teacher at home or studio location. Student needs to provide drumset or snare etc. if lessons are done at students home. *** Specialties *** Progressive Rock, Jazz Fusion, influenced by Dave Weckyl, Neal Peart, Stuart Copeland, Steve Smith.
