    Specialties
I specialize in teaching jazz, commercial, and classical music. I also specialize in teaching young children who are gifted at their respective instrument. I have instructed children who have been accepted into Stony Brook and Julliard pre-college programs. I also have extensive experience in preparing students for NYSSMA and SCMEA competitions. I try to have every student participate because they are a great way for students to learn to perform a prepared piece of music. It also gives them a ...
    Lesson Details
I believe every student is different. Some students benefit from more strict methods , while others need a more laid back approach. I like to use a little of both. When it's time to work, we work, but we can also have fun when it's appropriate. Over the course of the first few lessons, I will evaluate exactly what approach you or your child needs to succeed. Over the first few months, students will generally have at least a basic knowledge of their respective instrument and be able to play ...
    About
I have proudly been teaching music privately for 10 years. I have worked with hundreds of children molding their young musical talents. I enjoy being able to see them grow from year to year which is one of the reasons I chose private as opposed to public schools. It's a thrill to have a student with me from a little kid in elementary school all the way until graduation and, know that I was there to help them not only through their musical endeavors but, also through life. ...
    Equipment
In-Home: If need be I will usually pick up books and supplies, such as reeds, picks, cork grease, metronomes etc... It is essential that students have their own instruments so they are able to practice during the week. I also will provide students with a practice sheet. I also usually provide audio samples of pieces the students are working on and try to record their practices at times so they are able to hear themselves play from another perspective.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Feeling Productive Jennifer is very patient and ensures that you work on areas that you are having trouble with. Have had lessons before but she feels more organized and provides good direction. February 11, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Finally My lessons with Jennifer are going well.In just three lessons she has me realizing alot of errors that I was doing. I tried to teach myself for 6 years. I ended up screwing up my fingering alot. I would get to places in the music where my fingers were tied up and then I would hesitate and try fo figure out what I did wrong only to make things worse. She is very patient with me and yes I am learning alot. She makes me look forward to my next lesson November 22, 2011
  • Getting Started

Excited about jumping into music lessons? Before you can get to the guitar tabs, violin concertos, and vocal riffs, take a moment to think about the logistics of your lessons.
    Lesson Length
There are a few things to consider when choosing between 30-, 45- or 60-minute lessons. First and foremost, take your age and experience level into account. You'll also want to think about your long- and short-term goals, and the time you'll need to reach them. Most importantly, consider how long you or your child is able to stay focused.
    Lesson Location
Teachers have the option to display availability for in-home, in-studio, and online music lessons. In-home lessons take place at your house, in-studio lessons are conducted at the teacher's home or professional studio, and online lessons are taught over the internet via live video chat.

    Payment and Billing
We make paying for your lessons convenient and hassle-free! Prices vary based on several factors, including the city you live in, the length of your lessons, and whether you're taking them at home, in your teacher's studio, or online. Lessons are paid for in advance, which locks in your time slot.
    Signing Your Customer Agreement
Signing your Customer Agreement and completing your Student Questionnaire is the last step! The questionnaire will give your instructor valuable information about your goals and experience level, and give him or her time to create a customized lesson plan right from the start.

    Start Your Lessons

Now the excitement can really begin! Consider the following to ensure an exceptional first lesson...
    Prepare for Your First Lesson
Once you've completed the last step, your teacher will call you within the next couple of days to confirm your first lesson time and provide you with directions to their studio, if needed. We also encourage you to discuss your goals and any other questions you may have.
    What To Expect
Every teacher is different, but most first lessons begin with an assessment of where you are in your studies. At a beginner level, you might review the basics of your instrument, such as the different parts, how to hold it correctly, and proper care and maintenance. For voice, this may be the time you learn about breathing and posture.
    Reach the Goals You Set
Every TakeLessons student is unique, and so is your lesson plan! You'll work with your instructor to develop a plan suited to meet your specific goals. Most TakeLessons instructors will also keep track of your progress with a lesson journal.
