I love to help people write their own music and find their own voice!

I like to laugh a lot. Yes, we will work on serious material but in a gentle, fun and relaxed way. If you are a beginner we will focus on how to get chords and rhythm moving. Advanced? Melody, modes, improvisation. As a professional musician myself I tend to take on the producer role with my students: find those strengths and inspire one to bring them out. Build that confidence. For those who are interested in learning classical guitar I can help you. If you are an aspiring composer even better! I have written music since I was a teenager and I love helping people find their own voice be it classical or pop. Electric guitar? Yes! I believe in developing a solid fundamental tone and I love to help people get the most out of their equipment! I have 32 years experience fixing and building tube amplifiers as well as playing. We can talk pedals, strings, picks, pickups..... I have too much information to keep all to myself! Need help recording a project? I can help with that as well.

I am a working multi instrumentalist here in Kingston New York. I play guitar and saxophone. I have just completed recording my second solo LP which is all pieces I composed for classical guitar. I also play in the jazz world and love to teach improvisation and composition. Recording credits include Parquet Courts, Danny Arakaki, Kyp Malone, Kelsey Lu and David Sitek. I am currently playing in a band called Juma Sultan's Aboriginal Music Society and in the past led the groups Gospel of Mars and Evolutionary Jass Band. I love teaching music. My main focus is classical guitar these days but I enjoy teaching all styles. I'm just as adept on a Telecaster as I am on a nylon string!

I took guitar lessons with Jef a few years ago at his shop. He was always a very patient and attentive teacher. He also asked me a lot of questions about what kind of music I was interested in playing, what aspects of a particular style were interesting to me. There was one very memorable lesson when he had picked out some records he thought would relate to what I was learning and played them for me. We listened and talked about them and then played some more. Jef's teaching was well rounded and very enriching. More than just improving technically, I was encouraged to figure out what aspects of the instrument I related to most, and thereby was able to develop my own sense of style.

Jef is a fantastic music instructor--period! Jef is one of those rare individuals who is an amazing creative artist AND teacher. Learning from Jef is a beautiful experience--he couldn't be more a more genuine and down to earth person and he has a wonderful gift to be able to impart musical skills and concepts to his students in a way that is unique and individual to each of his pupils. I've had the privilege of studying with Jef for a number of years and can't recommend him highly enough to anyone interested in pursuing Guitar, Bass Guitar or Saxophone instruction. It doesn't matter what your skill level is, you will learn and grow with this guy. He's a seasoned veteran performing and recording musician in many different styles and he knows how to connect with his students. Like a doctor, he diagnoses each student and situation and prescribes just the right medicine to make things move in the right direction. Look no further people, study music with Jef and you'll be happy you did!!!
