Specialties

My drum set playing and teaching generally stem from rock, jazz, Brazilian and other world music. I'm also well versed in all of the orchestral percussion instruments including four mallet marimba, timpani, etc, and I have experience with world percussion including congas, pandeiro, steel drum, etc.

Lesson Details

My lessons are geared toward the needs of each student. I use a few common method books and also create my own exercises.

Components of each lesson could include technique, fine tuning songs the student is learning, reviewing exercises and adding new ones, and play-alongs to music (or with me on an instrument).

For beginning students, we'll start out learning a basic rock pattern by rote and becoming familiar with the drum set. Soon we'll incorporate fills, rudiments, technique and ... notation.

I love teaching kids as well as adults of all ages! I strive to make my lessons comfortable and fun as well as challenging.

I have been playing drums since the 6th grade where I was in concert band and jazz band. From there I studied with a local teacher and went on to study music at Oregon State University. While at OSU, I participated in band camps and a percussion ensemble for middle and high school kids which led me to my passion for teaching younger students.

My performing ... experiences include playing drums and percussion for many different groups. I've played drums for progressive rock, jazz, Brazilian and punk rock groups as well as percussion for the Corvallis-OSU Symphony Orchestra and the Newport Symphony Orchestra.
