My degrees are in classical guitar but I have experience teaching rock, jazz, blues, and folk as well.
I can also teaching beginning electric bass.

Lesson Details

My lesson style depends on your goals with the instrument. If you want to become a serious student of the classical guitar or just strum and sing for fun, we can go in that direction. I focus on musicality regardless of style. My philosophy is, you get the most out of music by applying all the tools available to you such as knowledge, talent and motivation. My goals with my students are that they will become great musicians, not just guitar players.

I use a variety of resources during ... my lessons including books, audio, and video. Students are encouraged to ask questions and not be afraid to laugh. Music may be an art but that doesn't mean it can't be fun.

About

A native of the musically rich Austin, TX, Jason began playing the guitar at age 11. His formal education began at Southeast Missouri State where he majored in classical guitar. During this time he also played the double bass in the orchestra and electric guitar in the jazz band. Jason won SEMO's concerto competition twice, once with a quartet and once solo, performing a movement from the "Concierto de Aranjuez".

Jason recently received his Masters of Music in guitar performance at ... Northwestern University where he studied with Anne Waller and performed in master classes for Oscar Ghiglia and David Russell. In addition to playing classical, Jason is an active electric player, performing in the Chicago area doing session work as well as musical theatre.

Jason also performs finger style and flat picking acoustic styles including folk and celtic music. He was an annual attendant of the St. Louis Celtic Music Festival where he studied celtic guitar techniques with Ged Foley.
