    About Jason L.

Learn: upright and electric bass guitar keyboards theory, composition, counterpoint improvisation sight reading stage and studio performance After getting started as bassist for the New York metalcore band Inner Dam, opening for such acts as Hatebreed, Nepalm Death, Agnostic Front and others in the 90's, I relocated to Chicago to expand my musical horizons and further my education. I earned a bachelor's degree in music from the University of Illinois, Chicago, performing both orchestral music and jazz on the double bass, and sang tenor with the choir. I graduated near the top of my class with a 3.89 G.P.A., excelling in music theory, ear training, composition, counterpoint, and jazz improvisation. I also studied the keyboard for 3 years. Some of my professors included jazz greats Zvonimir Tot, Orbert Davis, and Stewart Miller, as well as the modern composer Mark Mellits. Aside from school I have performed all over Chicago, and toured the east and west coasts, performing a variety of music including; jazz, country, blues, bluegrass, West African pop, folk, reggae, hip hop, and indie rock. My band, Walking Bicycles has been covered in the Chicago Tribune and Spin magazine, and my bluegrass band is becoming a regular on the roots festival circuit. I have a wide range of knowledge to share, and can help you reach your goals, whether those goals be to start your own band, write your own music, play with other musicians, study at a University, or just express yourself on an instrument.
