Lesson Details

Before the very first lesson with a new student, I like taking the time to see how he or she learns before diving into music. I also like finding out what kind of music he or she likes, so that I can tailor lessons to each individual student.

I have learned that the best way to teach music is to keep younger students interest in it. I like making "music time" the fun time of the day. For example, I teach theory while the student is playing so they don't know that they are actually learning. ...

With younger students (ages 6 and below), I like telling stories to help connect them to music and entertainment. I also like to use games, which help stimulate their rhythm and coordination through song and dance.

With older students, I like to keep their interest by having them perform music that they like, or are interested in. .

Working hard is important to music, but so is having fun! Combining both aspects will undoubtedly lead to an amazing amount of progress and passion for music.

Hello! My name is Janice, and I love teaching music!!! I received a Bachelors of Music (education) degree from San Diego State University. Although I have experience performing on piano, saxophone, and flute, I enjoy teaching even more. I love discovering new methods of teaching music and using those methods to enhance the students musical education. I have experience teaching students of all ages (3 years and older).
