I specialize in approaching piano training via a method that combines traditional approaches with more innovative and inspired ones. For instance, I may use the standard Alfred piano development and training books as a primary guide of the formal pedagogy, but will also encourage my students to explore different types of classical music which can have the superior effect of being both instructional (to the astute listener) and also extremely inspirational (which will hopefully result in the ... student being more motivated to practice, learn, etc.).

Lesson Details

As an instructor, my style is fairly relaxed, allowing the student to go at the speed which is most conducive to his/her development. For beginners, I employ the Alfred instructional books as the primary guide and basis for the curriculum of instruction. For more experienced students, we can begin with any number of intermediate to advanced pieces that are available within my music library.

After 3 to 6 months, the beginning student will be able to read and play basic music, as they will ... have satisfactory knowledge of the following: keyboard topography, proper hand position and fingering, notational values, rhythm, and melody.

For more intermediate students, we will focus on breaking complicated pieces into their component parts, understanding the musical theory underlying the piece, and mastering one section at a time. In this manner, the student will never be overwhelmed, but will also never be under-challenged. At the end of 3 to 6 months, this student should be playing classical and popular pieces that reflect great progress and musical accomplishment.

Finally, for students desiring to explore computer-based music production, I will personally guide them through each step of the process of using professional music production software. At the end of a few months they will be able to do just that.
