I grew up in a home filled with music and art. I started playing when I was 7, and in 3rd grade joined my first choir. My parents were talented artists and musicians. Our home was filled with music. My father, an architect and builder, played classical guitar and entertained us after dinner and on the weekends. My brothers and sister picked up various instruments and eventually we made music together. I often was asked to accompany the choirs I sang with from 8th grade thru college. I also played the flute in the band and orchestra from 8th - 12th grades. I started teaching when I was 18 and continued lessons and performing in theatre and choirs. Now my children are becoming talented musicians; one at the guitar, the other on piano. I often gather my students for fun and relaxed "Piano Parties" and we play for each other and enjoy making music. I love to teach children and enjoy their excitement when they can play special selections for their family and friends. My other hobbies include cooking and oil painting. *** Lesson Details *** I'm a fun and relaxed teacher. Sometimes strict, but I try not to let my students figure that out. I want them to learn to push themselves to do better. I love to praise and show that I'm impressed with their abilities. I understand that every student is different and learns at a different pace. My goal is to have them feeling good about their progress. In 3 to 6 months, they will be playing songs that they are familiar with and enjoy performing them for their family and friends. I teach theory along the way as I believe it's an important part in understanding the building blocks of composing, song structure, memorization and other skills. Although I follow a method which I believe bests fits the individual, I listen to the requests of my students and include musical selections that they would enjoy playing, such as Disney, Blues, Religious, Country, Pop etc. *** Travel Equipment *** A Piano, or a Touch Sensitive keyboard, or Electric piano with weighted keys *** Specialties *** Classical, with Classic training, reading Music Theory, scales, chords etc. Pop styles and other music enters their lessons when I feel they are ready and need the balance of method books.
